In terms of background, Tri-Star Energy Company (Tri-Star) is part of the Tri-Star Group and the sole title holder of Petroleum Exploration Licences (PEL) 160, 288, 289, and 290.

Sections 99 and 100 of the Petroleum & Geothermal Energy Act 2000 (the Act) and Regulations 12 and 13 of the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Regulations 2013 (the Regs) require Tri-Star to prepare Statement/s of Environmental Objectives (SEOs) for regulated activities.

Accordingly, Tri-Star has prepared these SEOs to meet the requirements of the Act and the Regulations, as well as to form the basis for relevant stakeholder engagement.

The intent of these SEOs is to outline the environmental objectives required to be achieved when undertaking regulated activities, and the criteria upon which these objectives are to be assessed.  The environmental objectives have been developed on the basis of information provided in the relevant Environmental Impact Reports (EIRs) for Petroleum Activities and Geophysical Operations. Each document has been developed in accordance with Section 3 of the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Act (2000).

Prior to submission of each SEO and EIR to the Department for Energy and Mining, Energy Resources Division (DEM-ERD), Tri-Star is contacting key stakeholders to understand any potential concerns associated with future regulated activities within the licences so that these can be appropriately addressed in the final documents. In accordance with Regulation 10(1)(f), Tri-Star will include details of any concerns raised to better inform these documents and how they have been addressed within the relevant EIR.
