GLOSSARY AND TERMS
ATP – Authority To Prospect granted under the Petroleum Act 1923 (Qld) or the Petroleum Gas (Production and Safety) Act 2004 (Qld)

CSG – Coal Seam Gas is a form of natural gas that is trapped in coal seams. It is also known as Coal Bed Methane
Eromanga Basin – The Mesozoic sedimentary basin covering parts of Queensland, the Northern Territory, South Australia and New South Wales
Exploration – Drilling, seismic or technical studies to identify and evaluate regions or prospects with the potential to contain hydrocarbons
JV – Joint Venture
Gladstone LNG (GLNG) – Is a venture between Santos and three of the world’s largest energy companies, PETRONAS, Total and KOGAS to convert Coal Seam Gas (CSG) to Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) for export to global markets. LNG – Liquefied Natural Gas, which is natural gas that has been liquefied by refrigeration for storage or transportation
Methane – A colourless, odourless flammable gas that is the main component of natural gas
Non-operated – A joint interest that is not operated by Tri-Star
Oil – A mixture of liquid hydrocarbons of different molecular weights
Pedirka Basin – The Paleozoic intracratonic sedimentary basin located primarily in South Australia and the Northern Territory and possibly extending into Queensland
PEL – A petroleum exploration licence granted under the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Act 2000 (SA)
PELA – An application for a PEL
Petroleum Act – The Petroleum Act 1923 (Qld), the Petroleum Gas (Production and Safety) Act 2004 (Qld) or the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Act 2000 (SA) as relevant
PJ – Petajoule
PL – A petroleum lease granted under the Petroleum Act 1923 (Qld) or the Petroleum Gas (Production and Safety) Act 2004 (2004)
PL – Petroleum Lease
PPL – A Petroleum Production Licence granted under the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Act 2000 (SA)
PRL – Petroleum Retention Licence granted under the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Act 2000 (SA)
Production well – A well used to retrieve oil or gas from an underground reservoir
Surat Basin – The sedimentary geological basin of Jurassic to Cretaceous age in southern Queensland and northern New South Wales
Tenement – A permit, claim, licence or lease that may be granted by a Mining Registrar, the responsible Minister, or by the Governor in Council
Tenure – The right to use and occupy property either under ownership or lease in order to explore or produce oil or gas
Unconventionals – Natural hydrocarbons which occur in less permeable sources. These include coal seam gas extracted from coal deposits, shale gas extracted from shale, and tight gas, which is extracted from layers of low-permeability rock
WTI – West Texas Intermediate crude oil is a high gravity, low sulphur oil
